Inuit Art Collections

Private Collection: June, 2026

This collection of over sixty pieces was built with love over a thirty-year period [1980-2010] by a woman who travelled extensively in the Canadian Arctic and spent months in some communities. It is clear from the quality of the works that she was able to make friends with the artists, and had a good eye for the work. Many of these carvings are already period pieces. Houston North Gallery is proud to present the works in this collection for your consideration.

You will find owls, Arctic hare, polar bears, swans, loons, narwhal, walrus, muskox and others representing the Inuit world of animals. Transformations represent the transitions from animal to animal and between animals and humans. The shaman serves as a conduit between the world of animals and the world of humans. And Nuliajuk (Sedna), the great female deity, presided over them all.
