The Houston Family began the movement to bring Inuit art to the world.

We have over 60 years of artistic collaboration with Inuit as family, the most recent 20 years as the Houston North Gallery. Now, our virtual gallery is part of our ongoing effort to bring Inuit art to the rest of the world.

The Houston North Virtual Gallery features the highest quality images of Inuit sculpture and Inuit art prints, bringing the original works of the Inuit people ( also known as Canadian Eskimo ) to a wider audience. Works of Inuit art, from the communities of Cape Dorset, Baker Lake, Spence Bay, Inukjuak and many more, are featured in the gallery, where you will find both Inuit Sculpture in stone and other mediums, as well as a large selection Inuit Art Prints.

Long before we opened our virtual gallery and before we began taking Inuit art and culture to other countries, the Houston North Gallery was already a gateway to the Inuit world. Our chosen setting for the physical gallery, historic Lunenburg in Nova Scotia, Canada, has since been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and become a major destination for visitors from around the globe. Our virtual gallery represents our renewed commitment to bring Inuit art, culture and spirit to our expanding clientele on the internet as well as gallery visitors.

Visit the world of Arctic animals, legend and daily life as depicted in Inuit sculpture and limited edition art prints. The Inuit Art is complemented by our selection of paintings, etchings, folk art, sculpture and ceramics by contemporary Nova Scotian Artists, both academically trained and self taught. The gallery has continually had a selection of folk art by Joe Norris on hand since we gave Joe his first solo show 1981. If you are looking for works by Joe Norris click here.

James and Alma Houston brought the art of the Inuit world recognition beginning in the 1950's when Cape Dorset on Baffin Island was their home. Their son, gallery owner John Houston, tells this story in his award winning film; 'Songs in Stone: an arctic journey home' available from the gallery.

The Inuit, Inuit Indians, Inuit tribe or Eskimos - which name is correct?

Some call them the Inuit Indians or the Inuit tribe and more commonly, Eskimos. As an Inuit art gallery we hear these terms used frequently. As a result we have created a page to help educate people as to who the Inuit are and to help build an appreciation for these wonderful people and their amazing artistic ability. The Inuit people are the most widely dispersed group in the world still leading a partly aboriginal way of life. To learn more click here.
